PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a self-discharge when a battery is preserved and to improve a preservation characteristic by containing maleimide or its derivative in a nonaqueous electrolyte constituted of a solvent and a solute. SOLUTION: A lithium metal or an alloy capable of storing or discharging lithium, e.g. a lithium - aluminum alloy or a carbon material, can be used for a negative electrode, and the lithium metal is optimum. A nonaqueous electrolyte may contain maleimide or its derivative 0.01-20.0 wt.% against the nonaqueous electrolyte, preferably in the optimum content range of 0.1-10.0 wt.%. The maleimide expressed by the formula I or the maleimide derivative expressed in the formula II is used. In the formula II, the substitutional group R is generally the alkyl group. The methyl maleimide expressed by the formula III or the ethyl maleimide expressed by the formula IV is used for the derivative as the optimum example. |
