PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having improved sensitivity, photoresponsiveness and resolution capable of making electrophotographic appliances high processing speed and high in image quality. SOLUTION: A photosensitive layer 2 formed on a conductive base body 1 consists of a first layer 3 having the main functions of holding the electrification potential in a dark place and transferring a charge carrier during exposure, and a second layer 4 formed thereon having the main function of producing a charge carrier during exposure. The first layer 3 is 20 to 70μm thick and consists of an amorphous selenium-arsenic alloy containing iodine, while the second layer 4 is 5 to 30μm thick and consists of an amorphous selenium- arsenic alloy containing iodine in a smaller amt. than in the first layer 3 and having higher arsenic concn. than in the first layer 3.
