PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writer in which the effect of a plane mirror is extremely small and can be neglected. SOLUTION: Relating to a writer 2 provided with a deflector 4 for deflecting a laser beam radiated from a light source, fθlenses 5a, 5b for penetrating the laser beam 14 deflected by the deflector 4 and a plan mirror 6 for reflecting the laser beam 14 to the surface of a recording medium 1 on the exit side of the fθlenses 5a, 5b, the mirror 6 is constituted so that the shape of a cross section obtained by cutting off the mirror 6 vertically to a scanning direction is an almost rectangle, the minor side 22 of two rectangular faces of the rectangle is a reflection face and the major side 23 is a holding face. The ratio of the major side 23 to the minor side 22 is preferably >=2.5.
