PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for detecting the motion vector by converting an input video into gradation pattern information, and comparing the gradation pattern information of a picture element in the motion detecting area of a present field with the centroid pattern information of the previous field. SOLUTION: This device includes a gradation pattern converting part 210 for comparing a gray level difference between each picture element in a prescribed motion detection area set in an input video and the surrounding picture elements with an arbitrary critical value, and converting the gray level of the picture element into a gradation bit pattern, and a vector detecting part 110 for successively forming a retrieval area in the motion detection area, comparing the gradation bit pattern of the retrieval area with the representative bit pattern of the previous video, accumulating the correlation value, and detecting the coordinate difference between the retrieval area in which the accumulated value of the correlation value is a maximum and the representative bit pattern with a motion vector. Thus, the input data are converted into the gradation pattern information, and the motion vector due to hand shake is detected by using only the gradation pattern information so that a memory capacity can be reduced. |
