PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for image processing and a medium in which image processing corresponding to a printing characteristic of a printing device for performing the printing is executed by utilizing a detachable cartridge having a print head and an ink tank. SOLUTION: A CPU 101 fetches information indicative of a loading condition of a cartridge from a printer 109 wherein a cartridge for printing a black image can be loaded thereto and either a cartridge for binary-value printing of a color image or a cartridge for multi-value printing of a color image can be selectively loaded thereto. The CPU 101 reads an image processing parameter corresponding to the loading condition from a ROM 102 to set it to an image processing section 108.
