PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for alkaline battery having an excellent function of preventing a rise of the battery internal pressure by holding the affinity with an electrolytic solution for a long period of time, preventing self-discharge, allowing smooth passage of the oxygen gas and hydrogen gas generated from the positive electrode in the event of over-charging or over-discharging, and allowing the negative electrode to make chemical reaction or absorption. SOLUTION: Polyolefin pulp in fine fiber shape having a Canadian freeness value of 100-700 ml, a wt.-mean fiber length of 100-1000 μm, and a mean fiber diameter of 0.1-10 μm and polyolefin series fibers cut into 0.5-30 mm lengths are subjected to a wet type paper making process in which these materials as the solid component share 90 wt.% or more of the resultant sheet object, and thus a wet type non-woven cloth is produced, which is subjected to a hydrophilic processing so that the holding rate of the 30% potassium hydroxide aqueous solution becomes over 250%. |
