PURPOSE: To obtain a recording/reproducing method suitable for a multimedia system capable of unifiedly compressing and recording or decoding and reproducing a data series of different compressing system data blocks in coexistence on a single recording medium. CONSTITUTION: An identification data for showing a compressing system is added to each data block in the input data series, and based on confirmation of detecting this identification data, a buss connecting state between a compression processing part 5 and a program memory 3 or 4 is switched by a switch circuit 6, and compression of data is executed by using a compressing program in the program memory which is in the access state of the compression processing part 5. Then, a separated and detected identification data is previously transferred to a recording part 10, and the compressed data in a sector unit with the identification data added is recorded on an optical disk 9 by the recording part 10. At the time of decoding, reproduction of the data is executed in the reverse procedures while switching decoding programs by confirming the identification data. |
