The insulating floor joist is made from two insulating halves (2) fixed with adhesive to either side of a central supporting member (1) which can be of concrete, metal profile or folded strip, or natural or reconstituted timber. The insulating halves have tongues (4) which meet beneath the supporting member and are joined by a connector (5), and they are fitted to the supporting member by the application of pressure from both sides.
