PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a timepiece with a liquid crystal panel having abundant color variations and bright colors, presenting a clear color tone, and capable of offering abundant color designs. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal is injected and sealed between two glass substrates, upper and lower polarization plates 3a, 3b are provided on both substrates to form a liquid crystal panel 1, and electroluminescence(EL) 5 is used as the backlight of the liquid crystal panel 1 used for a clock. The upper and lower polarization plates 3a, 3b are an absorption type polarization plate on the upper glass substrate 2a1 side and a reflection type polarization plate on the lower glass substrate 2a2 side. A color EL 4 formed with a color layer is arranged on the surface of the EL 5 on the liquid crystal panel 1 side. The color EL 4 is laminated with an insulating layer 5f, a back face electrode layer 5e, a dielectric layer 5d, an illuminant layer 5c, an ITO electrode layer 5b and a resin film 5a in this order from the lower layer of the EL 5, and the color layer 6 is formed on the surface of the resin film 5a. The reflected light on the reflection type polarization plate has a lustrous metallic color with a silver or gold color tone, and the color layer 6 is made of a fluorescent pigment. A contrast between display characters and background and a bright and clear color tone can be obtained. |
