PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical disk recording and reproducing device for driving the elevating and lowering mechanism of a magnetic head by the drive source of a loading mechanism without a part to be slid along the movement of an optical pickup in the elevating and lowering mechanism of the magnetic head. SOLUTION: A magnetic head arm 13 for supporting the magnetic head 16 is freely turnably supported by an optical pickup moving base 5 and energized by a spring 14 in a magnetic head lowering direction, an identification lever 19 turned by a cartridge is freely turnably supported by a holder 2 and an identification cam 17 for controlling the turning of the magnetic head arm 13 is freely turnably supported by the optical pickup base 5 and energized by the spring in a direction to be in press contact with the identification lever 19.
