PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good traveling stability, a high output and a high capacity by adopting an aramid base as a flexible base, providing one surface of this aramid base with a magnetic layer, providing the opposite surface thereof with a back-coating layer and specifying the strength of adhesion between the back- coating layer and the aramid base to a specific value or above. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape, which is excellent in both of electromagnetic transduction characteristics and the traveling stability, can be prepd. by specifying the strength of adhesion between the back-coating layer and the aramid base to >=80 g/(8 mm width). The magnetic tape preferably has a nonmagnetic layer contg. nonmagnetic inorg. powder and a binder between the aramid base and the magnetic layer. Any of titanium oxide,α-iron oxide or their mixture is preferably used as the granular oxide for the back-coating layer for the purpose of assuring the film strength of the back-coating layer itself. Carbon black is preferably used for an antistatic purpose. The film strength of the back-coating layer formed in such a manner is high and the surface electric resistance thereof is low.
