The mechanism comprises a drive shaft (10) rotating a wiper fixed to its upper end (12). The shaft rotates in a bore (38) of a bearing (34,36) in which is retained axially in both directions. The wiper is rotated in an alternate angular travel by a crank (22) the end of which (26,28) is connected to rotate with the shaft. The bearing body (34) has a slot (46), extending angular in a radial plane, in which the crank displaces angularly. The crank is retained axially between the upper (50) and lower (52) surfaces of the slot.
