PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a gradational image with continuity at low cost. SOLUTION: By the driving method of the image display device 1 which makes a gradational display by converting inputted image data into display dots differing in lightness, at least five kind of characteristic curve of a gradation conversion table 13 indicating the relation of gradation values and energy for displaying the display dots are set when the density level of the image data is converted to the lightness of a display means and for half-tones, at least three kinds of energy value other than maximum or minimum energy are set for a given gradation value; and the number of display points where the energy becomes maximum is set to more than a half of the number of all the display points at a minimum gradation value in which a display point where the energy becomes maximum is present.
