OPTICAL SYSTEM USING BETA-BARIUM METABORATE AS NONLINEAR OPTICAL CRYSTAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical system which generates second harmonics or sum frequency waves by continuous or pulsed oscillation and to prevent decrease in its output by usingΒ-barium metaborate as a nonlinear optical crystal and controlling the temp. ofβ-barium metaboarate to a specified temp. or higher. SOLUTION: This optical system usesβ-barium metaboarate as a nonlinear optical crystal 5 and generates second harmonics or sum frequency waves by continuous oscillation. The temp. of theβ-barium metaboarate crystal is controlled to >=70 deg.C. Also, the system can be used as an external resonance type system which generates second harmonics or sum frequency waves by continuous oscillation of <=400 nm UV rays. Also the optical system can be used as an external resonance-type second harmonic generating system which generates light at 266 nm wavelength from light at 532 nm wavelength of continuous oscillation. Also the system can be used as an external resonance-type sum frequency generating system which generates light at 355 nm wavelength from lights at 532 nm and 1064 nm wavelength of continuous oscillation.
