The drum rotates in an operating chamber (4). The chamber is divided by a stationary wall (3) into two asymmetric spaces. The larger space contains a light gas, e.g. helium (17), while the smaller (19) contains a heavy fluid, e.g. mercury. The inside of the drum also contains the lighter medium. The differential densities and the asymmetry cause the drum to rotate (R2).
