The tow hook (4) has a hitch ball (6) on the end of an angled rod which is fastened to a coupling assembly (5). The coupling assembly has an upward protrusion which fits into the bottom of the mounting bracket (3) on the car. The protrusion has a pawl mechanism (22) which retains the hook.
