A wheel well supporting a tubeless tyre has a side channel containing a solid, resilient, generally cylindrical insert which, if the tyre deflates, carries the wheel load. Its periphery on the chassis side (A) has eccentric inclined ribs, the remaining surface (B) being cylindrical. Running on this irregular surface produces vibratory wheel forces, parallel to the axis of rotation, detected by a sensor in the chassis, and these above preset amplitudes and frequencies, are taken to indicate deflation. The driver is alerted through a dashboard display. Optionally, discrimination is provided for each axle, or each wheel. Alternative insert geometries are described. An alarm on a different principle employs a radio transmitter initiated when the tyre interior contacts the insert.
