PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminance and lifetime of a device while enabling the setting of the driving voltage at a low value or while raising concentration and pressure of the sealed rare gas by providing a film of the secondary electron emitting material in a surface of a partitioning wall formed in a back surface plate and a surface between the partitioning walls. SOLUTION: A secondary electron emitting layer 11 is formed on the surface of a dielectric layer 9 provided on the surface of a board 4 of a back surface plate 2 and the surface of an address electrode 8 provided on the board 4 so that the secondary electron emitting layer 11 exists in the back at parts filled with the phosphor 12 except for top parts of the partitioning wall 10. Ion, electron or photon moving in a discharge space collide with the surface, and the secondary electron is emitted, and discharge is easy to be generated. Driving voltage can be raised so as to raise the concentration and pressure of the sealed rare gas. As a secondary electron emitting layer 11, a continuous film formed by coating the dispersed sol solution in the organic solvent of magnesium oxide fine grains having a grain diameter at 100 nm or less and burning it is desirably used. Since the secondary electron emitting layer 11 has a high film strength, even in the case where thickness of the film is formed thin, crack is hard to be generated. |
