摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the development time for a light scatter pattern for scattering light propagated in a light guide plate and to improve image reproducibility corresponding to a display image having a luminance distribution without spoiling power consumption reduction. SOLUTION: Scattering efficiency is controlled every variable scattering patterns by turning on and off scanning electrodes 18b of a light diffusing liquid crystal element 17 in synchronism with images of a liquid crystal display element 10. Consequently, the total luminance is supressed and the diffusion efficiency is increased at the part corresponding to the high luminance of the display image to make the image partially light. Consequently, necessary luminance is obtained without causing an increase in the power consumption to improve the image reproducibility.
