PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely emit electrons without controlling the film thickness in sub-micron units by directly fixing conductive fine particles constituting a cathode electrode to a substrate, and making electrons emitted from the conductive fine particles by a prescribed electric field. SOLUTION: A cathode electrode 6 formed into a strip having conductive fine particles 6A, such as graphite directly fixed to a bed glass 5 and having a prescribed width. By increasing the density of the conductive fine particles 6A, the adjacent particles are connected electrically. Thus, the electric field threshold for electron emission in this electron-emitting device is reduced, and the voltage to be applied to the cathode electrode 6 is reduced, so that this device can be driven with a low power. Since the conductive fine particles 6A are chemically stable, the cathode electrode 6 will not deteriorate with respect to ion collision. Accordingly, since the electron-emitting device can be driven with the vacuum of the same degree as a cathode-ray tube without requiring high vacuum, the structure design is facilitated, and the screen can be enlarged.
|
