<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the scale of a decoding circuit of variable length codes. SOLUTION: Code information C0 to C10, including a variable length code VLC consisting of a numerical part of a variable length bit and its following code part of a bit, are given to a decoding part 40. The numerical part is decoded at a numeric decoding part 41, and numerical data D0 to D4 are outputted. A code length decoding part 42 decodes the length of the code VLC, and the value smaller than the code length by one is outputted as a code length information LEN. A shift part 43 shifts the information C0 to C10 by an amount equivalent to the value of the information LEN, and the code part of the code VLC is outputted as the code data S. In such a constitution, a circuit consisting of a combination of logical gates that is needed for decoding the code part can be omitted and accordingly the scale of a decoding circuit can be reduced.</p> |
