METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SELECTIVELY DISCARDING ATM CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a network from becoming disordered by suppressing the randomness of cell loss. SOLUTION: An asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) layer 1 decides the discard of a cell belonging to a specific packet upon receiving ATM cells belonging to a plurality of packets 1-4 and informs a physical layer of the header information stored in the ATM cell corresponding to the packet. The physical layer 2 successively collates the headers of the received cells with the header information informed from the ATM layer 1 and discards the cell having the above- mentioned informed header information. The decision of the above-mentioned header information is performed following a cell discarding alignment, such as the PPD(partial packet discarding) algorithm or EPD(early packet discarding) algorithm.
