PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform the extraction and diameter measurement of a pellet through no manual work by a worker, thus performing the precise calculation of the pellet density. SOLUTION: The pellet nipping part of an anvil 14 and a spindle 8 reaches a position capable of nipping a pellet P, a drive motor 3 is rotated, and the spindle 9 is moved toward the anvil 14 side by the distance according to the rotation of a screw bar 13. A clutch member 6 acts so that a prescribed pressure or more is not added to the pellet P. Thus, under the condition where the pellet P is nipped with a proper pressure, the distance between the end surfaces of the spindle 9 and the anvil 14 is read as the measured value of diameterϕD.
