Production of a vacuum between two glass sheets making up an insulating window, one of these glass sheets incorporating a hole pierced through its thickness, is characterised in that a piece of low melting point alloy is placed at the outer end of the hole, the vacuum is produced and the alloy is melted so that it seals the wall of the hole in a manner that obstructs the hole. An insulating window produced by this method is also claimed.
