Detector for ion current generated by combustion ions

An ion current detector for detecting an ion current generated by combustion ions which are created by the application of a voltage has a positive electrode (2,3) and a negative electrode. The latter is located so that it lies opposite the positive electrode with a gap (9) between them so as to generate the combustion ions in this gap by the application of a voltage between the electrodes. The negative electrode comprises a semiconducting component (21) to generate a free electron coupled to the combustion ions when a voltage is applied between the electrodes. The semiconducting component is located on an outer surface of the electrode.
