The cylinder has a locking mechanism (20) supplying compressed air to both sides of a piston (5) so that it locks on the piston rod (6). The locking mechanism has brake shoes (24) in its cover (21) to stop the piston rod by gripping it; and a shoe holder (25) exerting braking force on the shoes so that the holder cannot move in the direction of the axis of the piston rod.
