The handling of speech-related services at a service control center, especially at a traffic telematic center, is optimized by a terminal or by a service center or by a method for establishing a speech channel which is carried via a public telephone network. Said speech channel is directed between an operator at a service center, especially at a traffic service station, and a terminal which was the last to call, especially a traffic telematic terminal. At the service center, the establishment of a speech channel between the operator of the service center and the terminal is only then made possible and executed when, beforehand, the terminal has requested the speech channel during a request procedure via a data channel between the terminal and the service center.
