Cylinder identification arrangement for internal combustion engines

The arrangement has a signal plate (15) mounted on a camshaft and two sensors (13,14) with as many groups of recessed or protruding elements as the engine has cylinders. The sensors have a reference group of elements in one of the groups with a different number of elements from the other groups. The sensors are designed to enable signals to be derived from the elements.
