An optical module comprising an optoelectronic board 10 having electrical connection sites 18 for connection with an electrical circuit. The module includes an optoelectronic device 14 on the optoelectronic board 10 and an optical fiber connector 52 including an optical element 26 each for connection with the optoelectronic device. Cooperative alignment members 46,48,52 on the optoelectronic board and the optical fiber connector are provided for aligning the optoelectronic dev ice on the board. There may be a plurality of optoelectronic devices 14, which may be super luminesence diodes, surface emitting diodes, vertical cavity surface emitting diodes or transceiving devices.
