摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a wide visual angle liquid crystal element device of which visual angle characteristics is effectively controlled and which is improved in display quality at a low cost by forming ruggedness for controlling pretilt angles of liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal layer being in contact with a surface of the oriented film on the oriented film surface and varying degrees of the ruggedness among plural prescribed regions. CONSTITUTION:Picture element electrodes 12'-14' are formed in respective picture elements 12-14 on an insulated substrate 16 and an oriented film 10 is formed on the whole surface of the substrate 16 by covering the picture elements electrodes 12'-14'. After forming the oriented film 10, the ruggedness is formed on the surface of the oriented film 10 by irradiating the oriented film 10 with the light beam. When the oriented film 10 is irradiated with the light beam, bonding chains is a polyimide molecule are cut and the part thereof is roughed to form ruggedness. The pretilt angle changes according to the changes of ruggedness degree of the oriented film 10 surface. The pretilt angle is alpha deg. in the picture element parts 12, 14 not irradiated with the light beam and the pretilt angle is beta deg. different from alpha deg. in the picture element part 13 irradiated with the light beam.
