PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound which is useful as an antitumor agent or an immunopotentiation composition capable of exerting excellent immunopotentiation antitumor activity by restricting its physical and chemical property, e.g. molecular weight, melting property, specific rotation or the like, in the compound obtained by combining a specific saccharide with a protein. SOLUTION: The objective compound is a light brown powdery protein polysaccharide which includes glucose and mannose as major constitutive saccharides and is obtained by combining these saccharides with proteins. The compound possesses a molecular weight of 85,000-105,000, shows a melting property which turns brown at 245 deg.C and changes to black brown at 275-279 deg.C to decompose and a specific rotation [α]<21> of +3.18 at concentration of 0.33 wt.% in water and is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in 0.05 N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and almost insoluble in methanol, ethanol, chloroform, benzene and hexane. Further, the compound is positive on phenol sulfuric acid, biuret, Lowry-Folin and xanthoprotein reactions and shows pH 7.4 at concentration of 1.58 wt.% in water. The compound is obtained by, for example, extracting a dry product of cultured mycelia of Agaricus blazei Mullil 0041 with hot water. |
