METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING FIBER REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC RESIN SHEET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet having good expansion properties and an apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: A sheet is formed from a web containing reinforcing fibers and a thermoplastic resin as main components. The web is heated to melt the resin and then is compressed temporarily under a linear pressure close to a theoretical thickness of the sheet. After that, the web is cooled and solidified with the linear pressure lifted. In this way, since the break and rearrangement of the fibers are prevented during the compression, cooling, and solidification of the web, a fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin sheet having good expansion properties can be produced. The product can be applied to members for automobiles and ceiling base materials which require lightweight and rigidity.
