PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyethylene resin and a polyethylene resin composition having excellent processability in rolling. SOLUTION: There is provided a polyethylene resin wherein a) the rate of the area of that portion of a chromatogram which corresponds to at least the elution time of a polyethylene resin having a molecular weight of 1×10<4> to the total area of the chromatogram is 20-33 wt.%, b) the swell ratio is 2.2 or below as measured with an orifice of an L/D of 0.5 mm/1 mm at a shear rate of 24 sec<-1> and a temperature of 170 deg.C; c) the melt tension is 40 mN or above as measured with an orifice having an L/D of 8 mm/2.095 mm at an extrusion speed of 10 mm/min, a take-up speed of 10 m/min, and a temperature of 170 deg.C; and d) the melt flow rate is 0.5-2 g/10 min as measured at 190 deg.C under a load of 2160 g.
