PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently generate gas by inserting a woven fabric.mat of an electric conductive body formed by sputtering gold on the surface of a fiber as a contact material between an ion exchange membrane and an electrode plate and allowing the whole surfaces to closely contact with each other to decrease the electric resistance. SOLUTION: A carbon fiber having severalμm thickness is used as the fiber constituting the close contact material 4 and woven to a cloth by plain weaving. Gold is sputtered on both surfaces or the cloth. The electrode plate 2 presses the close contact material 4 as a push metallic fitting material bended in zigzag to make the contact of the ion exchange membrane 3 with the electrode 2 close. The generated gas is easily passed through the fibers and then the electric contact between the material 4 and the membrane 3 has no fear of being disturbed by the generation of the gas and constant contact state is always kept. A cell voltage becomes 2.5 V when electrolytic current is 100 A/dm<2> and the loss by the contact resistance is reduced to 50 W from 100 W and the energy efficiency is improved by about 17%. |
