PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modulate the dot size with high precision without lowering a recording speed and without requiring a complicated and highly accurate control. SOLUTION: A liquid chamber 1 into which a pressurized ink liquid 5 is supplied is formed. In this liquid chamber 1, plural nozzle holes 7 are provided for discharging ink droplets across the constant area range of a recording paper arranged opposite to the nozzle holes 7. In addition, a single shutter 9 which closes an arbitrarily selected number of nozzle holes 7 out of the total number 7 is installed in a freely movable manner inside the liquid chamber 1. The shutter 9 is preferably of such an electrostatic cantilever type that it is moved by an electrostatic power. Further, the electrostatic cantilever ink jet head may be of such a type that plural nozzle holes 7 are grouped as one cluster and plural such clusters of nozzle holes 7 are provided in the liquid chamber 1 and further, the shutter 9 is provided for every cluster of nozzle holes 7. |
