FIREBRICK EXCELLENT IN SPALLING RESISTANCE AND BOTTOM OF CONVERTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain magnesia-carbon bricks so excellent in spalling resistance that the bricks can withstand even a severe thermal shock at the bottom of a converter and to obtain a bottom lining of a converter using the magnesia- carbon bricks. SOLUTION: The compsn. of the firebrick consists of 15-40 wt.% expanded graphite having <=0.3 mm particle diameter and the balance essentially magnesia. The magnesia-carbon bricks comprising a refractory material consisting of 15-40 wt.% expanded graphite having <=0.3 mm particle diameter and the balance essentially magnesia are used for the whole or part of the bottom of a converter.
