PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive practical catalyst capable of performing reaction even at a relatively low temp. at the time of decomposing nitrous oxide. CONSTITUTION: Rhodium is carried on zinc oxide. The form of rhodium is not restricted particularly if the form stably exists at the decomposition temp. of nitrous oxide and rhodium oxide or metal rhodium is usually used. And the quantity of rhodium to be carried is controlled to 0.05-2wt.%, preferably 0.1-1wt.% per zinc oxide expressed in terms of metal rhodium. The catalyst is prepared by impregnating zinc oxide with an aq. solution of a rhodium salt, drying and firing at 300-600 deg.C, preferably 400-500 deg.C. |
