The cable system (2) is towed behind the ship (1), which is equipped with a depth sounding sensor (2). The cable is lowered to the sea bed, so that the electrodes (A, B, M, N) are in contact with the top layer of the sea bed. Voltage signals applied to the end electrodes (A, B) result in currents between the intermediate electrodes (M, N). The resultant current depends on the resistivity of the sea bed. The current signals are analyzed as the cable is towed along the bed. |
