For compensation of the magnetic stray flux in the free space between the claw poles of the pole plates at the ends of the stator or rotor, permanent magnets are inserted. The permanent magnets (1) are mounted in a non-magnetic holder (2) of U-shaped cross-section, whose base legs (2a) support the permanent magnets radially against centrifugal forces. The axial ends of the holder are closed and are connected to the pole plates (7) or non-magnetic retaining discs adjoining the pole plates in order to fix the magnets axially.
