Steel fibers, for production of steel fiber-reinforced concrete, are surface treated

Steel fibers are surface treated by pyrolytic deposition of an adhesion layer to promote good bonding between the fibers and a concrete matrix. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a steel fiber surface treatment apparatus comprising a burner (30), a reaction chamber (40) and a steel fiber feeder (20), an agent being combusted in the reaction chamber to form an aerosol of particles which deposit on the steel fibers (1); (ii) steel fibers having an adhesion layer formed by pyrolytic deposition on their surfaces; and (iii) a steel fiber-reinforced concrete component containing the steel fibers described in (ii). Preferred Features: The agent is an organoaluminum and/or organosilicon compound for forming an adhesion layer of aluminum and/or silicon compound.
