An optical information recording film (2) contains a thermally decomposable substance which causes a complex refractive index change without deformation. An optical information recording medium has a recording film (2) containing a substance which thermally decomposes when laser beam irradiated to cause a complex refractive index change predominating over deformation in the recording film. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above optical information recording medium in which the recording film (2) is formed by a vacuum film forming process, especially reactive sputtering. Preferred Features: The substance is a compound of a metal and nitrogen. The recording film may also contain other substances such as a light absorption capacity controlling substance of ZnS-SiO2.
