The invention relates to a treatment method for cork material and corks in order to sterilize, reduce chemical contaminants, and to improve the polymerization, hardening and stabilization of adhesives in agglomerated corks. To this end, microwave radiation is utilized, whereby the corks are exposed to a microwave radiation ranging from 15 to 1000 W per kg cork during a time period ranging from 2.5 to 30 minutes.
