<p>A dynamic speed reducer comprising pumping means providing a pumping effect when driven by a moving vehicle and means to vary the pumping effect, wherein varying the pumping effect provides load to reduce speed of the vehicle to which it is fitted. The speed reducer may include a housing (20), a rotor body (27) having a plurality of cylinders (28) arranged radially around a shaft of the vehicle, a piston (30) in each cylinder (28) a gudgeon pin (34) extending through each piston (30) and the ends of the gudgeon pins (34) received in a circular track arrangement (44), the track arrangement (44) adapted to be moved laterally whereby to vary the motion of the pistons (30) in the cylinder (28) upon rotation of the rotor (27). A variable aperture valve plate (50, 52) is used to put load on the pumping effect.</p> |
