<p>A pump for impelling a fluid includes a first variable volume (9), the first variable volume (9) having a first inlet (13) for allowing the influx of the fluid into the first variable volume (9) and a first outlet (14) for allowing the efflux of the fluid out of the first variable volume (9) and a first membrane (1) defining at least a portion of the first variable volume (9). The pump also includes a first contractile actuator (5), for displacing the first membrane (1) from a first position to a second position in such a manner as to vary the first variable volume (9) and a second contractile actuator (6), for restoring the first membrane (1) from the second position to the first position in such a manner as to vary the first variable volume (9). A first check valve (17) is coupled to the first inlet (13) for regulating the influx of fluid into the first variable volume (9) through the first inlet (13) and a second check valve (18) is coupled to the first outlet (14) for regulating the efflux of the fluid out of the first variable volume (9) through the first outlet (14). In a preferred embodiment, at least one of the first and second contractile actuators (5, 6) is a linear actuator.</p> |
