The operating control has a front panel (12) with at least one recess (22) projecting inwards from its front surface (24) and receiving a sliding operating element (20) for operation of a switch element (32) at the rear of the front panel. The recess has an integral guide (66) projecting rearwards to fit through the carrier plate (28) for the switch element and receiving a rear projection of the operating element.
