An inexpensive crane is provided and at the same time the efficiency of cargo handling can be enhanced. Containers are loaded on the carriages of a horizontal conveyance device (200) by a trolley (165), and next the containers on the carriages are brought down on the ground by a trolley (160). One end of the horizontal conveyance device (200) is hoisted by a trolley (175) or a hoist gear installed in a crane main body, and the other end is hoisted by the trolley (175), or a hoist gear installed in a member which is freely movable from the crane main body toward the tip side of a boom, or hoisted from a hoist gear installed in the crane main body. At the time of stopping the horizontal conveyance device (200), the tip on the sea side of the horizontal conveyance device (200) is moved to a land side by the trolleys (170), (175) or a driving device such as the above-mentioned movable member. In that state, the conveyance of containers is performed by the trolley (165).
