A device for processing bank notes has a modular design. It has at least one inlet (311) and at least one outlet (361.1, 361.2). The device contains a fixed part (1) and exchangeable mobile modules (31-36) for performing each a complete processing function upon the bank note-like objects to be processed. The modules (31-36) can be inserted into the fixed part (1) in such a way that the desired sequence of bank note processing operations can be carried out. As much as possible, the electric lines, components and motors (41) are mounted on the fixed part (1). The forces and/or moments required by the modules (31-36) are transmitted by transmission means (51.1, 52.1) to the modules. The modules (31-36) can be plugged onto pins (2.1, 2.2, ...) secured to the fixed part (1), so that they can be easily inserted, removed or exchanged. The modules (31-36) can be selected from a set of different modules and combined in almost any possible way, so that they can implement a whole range of freely selectable sequences of processing operations. |
