<p>A method is described for the continuous in-line expansion of a heterogeneous substance including a fluid and a solid fraction, comprising the steps of: inputting the substance under pressure into a filtration cage (243), releasing the liquid fraction which is filtered through the cage (243), releasing the solid fraction from the cage (243), controlling the pressures of the liquid fraction and the solid fraction so that the pressure at which the liquid fraction is released is lower than the pressure at which the solid fraction is released. A combined expansion, pressure regulation and filtration apparatus for continuous in-line expansion of a heterogeneous substance including a fluid and a solid fraction is described. The apparatus preferably includes a filtration cage (243) for filtering said fluid from said solid fraction, means for pressurising the substance within said filtration cage (243), a housing (255) which encompasses said filtration cage (243) for receiving said liquid fraction and for outputting said liquid fraction, first pressure controlling means (258) for controlling the pressure at which said liquid fraction is output from said housing, and second pressure controlling means (259) for controlling the pressure at which the solid fraction leaves the cage (243). <IMAGE></p> |
