PURPOSE: To provide a coil tip shape detection apparatus which is not affected by bundling material or noises existing around the tip of the coil and by which the shape of even a fishtail tip can be detected. CONSTITUTION: A shadow due to the tip of a coil 11 is generated by light from an illumination device 12, and the shadow is image-picked up by a picking-up device 13. An image processor 15 detects a brightness change point from an obtained image by means of a brightness-change-point assembly detection part 152. A brightness-change-point neighborhood combination retrieval part 514 applies a spring model to the detected brightness change point, it retrieves other brightness change points to be linked, and it produces a link mode. A mismatching-brightness-change-point removal part 156 applies the spring model again to a brightness change point which has been linked to three or more other brightness change points from the link model, and it detects an inessential link. The production of the link model and the removal of a mismatching- brightness-change point are repeated until a combination-retrieval-part- convergence judgement part 155 confirms that the link model has become one rope-shaped model. |
