PURPOSE:To stabilize optical properties of an optical fiber and to improve the yield in production thereof by removing even stable oxides such as Al2O3 contained in a porous parent material by converting thereof into a gaseous chloride due to a reducing activity of carbon. CONSTITUTION:A porous parent material for an optical fiber is heat-treated is an atmosphere of a carbon-containing chlorine gas or a carbon-containing porous parent material for an optical fiber is heat-treated in an atmosphere of chlorine gas. |
